Summer, has arrived.
It has rained an inch, or close to it, 6 out of the last 7 days.
Started out a little slow, teasing us, and pleasing the land crabs.
I think they're pleased, although they do seem somewhat lost and traumatized.
Are they happy about coming out from their underground dwellings ?
Do they look forward to that first 1/4 inch of rain, when they appear
ON MASS ?
Where are they going and what are they looking for ?
I may need to find out ..
The 1st and 2nd day it rained, just a little here and there, givng us just a little
breather from watering the plants in the yard, and appealling to the crabs.
The sun is so extreme, so relentless, I could probably reflect a mirror ?
and start a plant/tree on fire ... maybe even my house ... God forbid.
I'm sure that is impossible, but that's how hot it feels to me.
Hotter than last year.
I have slept with a fan more times already this year, than I did last year.
Hormones ?
But the Rain Gods are have blessed us. It rained yesterday evening, just over an inch.
The crabs are gone. Except for a few hangers on, and I mean that literally.
And there are still a few of the very large, very red ones hanging out in dark corners.
It's like a sword fight trying to chase them out.
Many of them are missing a claw here or there, or are dragging it behind them,
with a dust bunny dragging behind that !
Small. hard back, copper coloured, flying beetles, arrived. I don't see them fly. really.
They just dive bomb into the light, drop to the floor, and swim on their backs till their dead.
Hary kary in the beetle world.
They are the perfect size to stick up under your big toe when you step on them ...
yeeewww.
But they are crunchy not gushy .... yeeewwww yewww ..
Then the termites swarmed, still again last night.
Lights out when they show up.
They'll swarm in the day too, but at night, with lights on, give it up !
They'll disappear, eventually...
And last night, the first little frog. I watched it gobble termites by candlelight,
while I cooked my pasta by candle light.
Yelapa Entertainment at it's finest.
I feed the lizards, there are 3 now.
Granddaddy showed up the other day, and if he comes back, we may have a problem.
He's huge, and very macho.
SJ continues to feed " his " Eagle.
Feeding a whole family now.
Hard to say how many and which tree, exactly, they live in, but they are so close.
Probably spread out like the Garcia's and Lorenzos and Rodriguez by now.
They are the first sounds at dawn.
He used to put the fish on the seawall, and the bird would take it and fly away,
but now it comes up to the back deck, and waits, sometimes eats right there, and then
carries some away. The pattern is somewhat regular, there are many disruptions,
obviously, but the Eagles are part of the neighbourhood now, or should I say ..
We are a part of theirs ??
All these bugs and such come at different phases and cycles, some overlap, but, nothing
lasts forever, and you learn how to endure.
Endure, survive, stay dry and cool, as comfortable, and sane ! as possible.
I've got it easy.
Some families in Yelapa, are still doing without a decent roof and shelter.
Many of them have no running water because the town line is not functioning and water
at the source of the river is low. Many people don't have water tanks to hold water for
these circumstances. They either hook up a pump and pump it directly from farther down
river or, hual it out in buckets, by hand.
Just like the good old days !
The water lines were being restored over the last few days, and, after last night rain,
most everyone should have running water again, you'd hope.
And then there's the rest of the world ...
I stay pretty tuned out to the major news.
When I do check in or get updated from friends, it's not usually an uplifting story.
I use some of the magazines and newspapers people bring me from USA/ Canada
for my English classes, but to keep things light, I mostly stick to the Sports Section !
I'm probably one of the few people looking forward to summer.
Tourists are still coming, but 2 restaraunts have closed down,
the Hotel and now Anajlina's Garden.
Another eights families out of work I heard.
There is work going on at the Point. Yoga Studio up on the hill, above El Jardin,
Casa Bobby Jones in my heart, and new proprieters at El Jardin, who are very excited
to be here. They are French Canadian ! Bonus !
Fund raising continues for the Grade 9 graduation trip or party or presents ?
It's a go with the flow attitude, for sure. Vamos a ver.
They will decide when the time is closer they say, but it's less than a month away !
Another reason why Special Events don't get advertized till the final hour ?
They are aften not planned or decided upon till then !
I'm learning about posting photos. Can you see a slide show on my blog ?
Do I need an Instagram account ? No. Do I want one ? Yes, but must learn how.
That's part of what July and August are for.
Also, I'm sorry if the page layout is bad. I'm learning.
I am connecting all the electronic equipment. Even if they don't all go together !
TV, Blueray, Roko, DVD, Sirus , all this came out of the storage box.
I do have helped lined up , obviously I need it.
Looking forward to having CBC Radio, it reminds me so much of life in north Ontario,
and Dear Georgina, plus NFB movies and Country Music plus.
It'll all work great, once Carlos Slim installs a new DSL cable in Yelapa, and we can actually stream. I'm pretty sure our weekly crusade of protest calls have died down, at least on my end they have.
Everything in it's time . Poco y poco y poco. Un dia. One day at a time ...
I hope rain will fall where its needed .... and skies will clear to peaceful days ..
